WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

Brushwork is what gives a painting life. In this 5-hour workshop, you'll learn how to create confident, expressive brushstrokes, control hard and soft edges, and handle paint in ways that add depth, atmosphere, and impact. Through demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and individual feedback, we'll explore how professionals use brushwork and edges to guide the viewer's eye and create paintings that feel fresh and intentional. Whether you're just starting out or have years of experience, you'll leave with practical tools to make your paintings stronger, looser, and more engaging.

WORKSHOP STRUCTURE

Objective

The objective of this 5-hour workshop is to help painters develop more confident, intentional brushwork while learning how edges and paint handling can create depth, atmosphere, movement, and focus. We’ll begin with demonstrations and discussion of hard, soft, lost, and found edges, then explore different approaches to brushwork, paint thickness, and mark-making through a series of short exercises. The second half of the workshop will give you time to apply these ideas to a painting with individual instruction and feedback. All levels are welcome. Come ready to experiment, loosen up, and push some paint around.
